This apparently is the series that the two Patlabor movies are based upon and would appear to take place a year or two before the first movie.

This series starts by introducing Tokyo Metro Police Second Vehicles Section 2 and all of its members. The series itself charts the day to day adventures of these persons.

As with the movies, this Anime series is much more about persons who just happen to work with labors [Mecha], then the labors [Mecha] themselves.

The series is a little bit lighter then the movies, but is still well done. In particular, episode 3 seems to give a nod to every rubber monster movie that came out of Japan in the 1950's. Anyone who enjoyed the Patlabor movies should enjoy this series.
